Katie Couric, 66, learned in the summer of 2022 that she has breast cancer. But the famous journalist waited several months until she revealed her diagnosis to the world, which prompted everybody to rally around her. Katie has purposely been extremely open with her fans throughout her health journey so that she can help others.

“I made it my mission to try to increase cancer awareness,” she told Entertainment Tonight in December 2022. “So, this is just another step towards that goal.” Keep reading to learn more about Katie’s cancer battle and how she’s doing today.

Katie Couric Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Katie found out her breast cancer diagnosis on June 21, 2022, after having a mammogram and biopsy. She learned the news of her health on the day of her 8th wedding anniversary with John Molner. Ironically, Katie’s first husband, Jay Monahan, died from colon cancer in 1998 at just 42. Her sister, Emily Couric, died of pancreatic cancer at 54, and her mother-in-law, Carol, died of ovarian cancer.

In an essay on Katie Couric Media, the journalist said she “felt sick” when she was told she has cancer. She revealed that she waited four days to tell her daughters Carrie, 27, and Ellie, 31, about her health. “I FaceTimed each of them. I tried to be as reassuring as Dr. Newman,” she wrote in her essay. “Their faces froze in disbelief. Then shock. Then they began to cry. ‘Don’t worry,’ I told Carrie then Ellie, ‘I’m going to be fine,’ trying to convince myself as well as them. They’d already lost one parent. The idea of losing another was unfathomable.”

Katie was told by her doctor that her “tumor is hormone receptor-positive, Her2neu-negative and highly treatable, particularly if it was detected early.” She underwent a lumpectomy on July 14 and started radiation on September 7. The tumor that was extracted from Katie’s breast was “roughly the size of an olive,” she revealed in her essay.

What Is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells in the breast divide out of control and are able to invade other tissues, according to the Center for Disease Control. Breast cancer can spread outside the breast through blood vessels and lymph vessels. Typically, most breast cancer patients undergo surgery and receive additional treatment such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy or radiation.

In Katie’s case, her Oncotype, the likelihood of her cancer returning, was 19, so chemotherapy wasn’t required for her treatment. She got a lumpectomy and did radiation but didn’t need hormone therapy.

How Long Has Katie Been Sick?

As mentioned before, Katie was diagnosed with cancer in June 2022. She wasn’t feeling sick before she found out she has cancer; she merely scheduled a mammogram with her doctor when she got the bad news. She went on get surgery and completed 15 rounds of radiation in September 2022. Katie told NBC in October 2022 that she was “not too tired” from the radiation.

How Is Katie Couric Doing Today?

Katie gave a positive update on her health at the 45th annual Kennedy Center Honors in December 2022. “I’m doing great. I’m feeling great,” she told ET. “I’m really lucky. Like one in three women, I was diagnosed with cancer. But, you know, I was very fortunate because early detection is everything and it was detected early. So, it’s not only treatable, it’s curable. And that’s why everyone needs to get screened.”

The former TODAY Show co-host also implored other people to get check ups as frequently as possible. “I wanted to make sure people knew that they have to get their mammograms. And if they have dense breasts, they should talk to their medical provider about getting ultrasounds,” she explained. “I think we all need to be advocates for our own health and support cancer research,” Katie also said. “So one day, you know, we’ll see the end of cancer. Maybe not in my lifetime, but hopefully in my daughters’ lifetime.”

james corden

James Corden is preparing for the final episode of his beloved talk show The Late Late Show on Friday, April 28. After nine seasons, 12 Primetime Emmy Awards, and over a thousand episodes, the comic, 44, will walk away from the show that has given fans so many iconic moments, sketches, and segments, like “Carpool Karaoke.” Outside of the show, James has been a staple of pop culture since taking over, even hosting award shows like the Tonys and Grammys. He also starred in the live-action adaptation of the musical Cats in 2019 and Cinderella in 2021.

During the near-decade that James hosted the show, he was also transparent with fans about his weight loss journey. He often opened up about his methods for losing weight, while also being open about some of the struggles he faced. Find out everything you need to know about James Corden’s weight loss here.

How Much Weight Did James Corden Lose?

James has shared different updates on his health and weight loss through the years. He’s revealed that at his heaviest, he weighed 294 pounds, and he had lost 84 pounds as of May 2022, according to Hello Magazine. The Prom star had opened up about losing 20 pounds over a three-month period during a 2021 Weight Watchers (WW) ad.

James is an ambassador for WW, and he’s credited it with helping him lose weight and keep it off. “I am down 28 pounds since the start of the year, and for the first time, the weight I’ve lost hasn’t come back. It’s game-changing and I feel incredible,” he said during a December 2021 interview with People.

How Did James Lose Weight?

The Cats star has credited WW with much of the help with his weight loss. He opened up about how he feels that it’s more productive than old methods he used to use during an April 2021 interview with People. “I used to go on a crash diet every January. By April, any progress I had made at the beginning of the year was already out the window. With WW, it’s a different story,” James said. “I can eat what I love, and the app everything — it keeps me focused. And guess what? I’m down 20 pounds since the start of this year.”

James announced his partnership with WW in January 2021, saying he was “fed up” with his lifestyle. “I’m fed up with the way I look, I’m fed up with being unhealthy, with ‘this is the year I’m doing it,’” he said on YouTube. “I want to change the way that I live. I want to be better for my children and for my family. I don’t want to wake up tired, or feel embarrassed when I’m chasing my son on the soccer field and [I’m] out of breath after three minutes.”

In terms of his actual methods, James admitted that he practices intermittent fasting and works with a personal trainer in a May 2022 interview with The Sun. “I have a trainer who I box with most mornings, and so far today I’ve had an apple.  I try to eat healthily and not deprive myself,” he said, admitting that he resisted the notion of a diet. “It’s like Dry January — it’s brilliant if you give up booze for January but  in the back of your mind you’re like, ‘Well, in February I’m going to have a drink.’”

James continued and explained that he felt like the Weight Watchers method really helped him. “You don’t have to cut anything out. It’s just being aware of what you are putting in your body, trying not to eat things that have too many ingredients,” he told The Sun. “You don’t beat yourself up if you have a bad week — you just don’t revert back to eating Quavers at midnight.”

How Does James Feel About His Weight Loss?

The late-night host opened up about recently taking inspiration from Harry Styles while they were on vacation together, but he admitted that he had a hard time maintaining it during an April 26, 2023 interview on The Howard Stern Show. He admitted that he tried to follow the “As It Was” popstar’s nutritional and exercise regiments, but quipped that he only lasted “36 hours” of the vacay. “I think it’s very, very good [to be around him]. I think it’s a positive thing in your life,” he said. “Once I’ve had a drink, I’m like, ‘I should get some fries.’”

James opened up about how he tried to separate health and weight loss in a January 2022 interview with CBS Mornings. “It’s working,” he said. “I’ve never felt like I’m depriving myself of anything, because it’s a plan that’s tailored absolutely to you, and it’s very much a long-term way to change your health.”

‘RHOC’s Emily Simpson Admits To Using Ozempic & Liposuction To Lose Weight

emily simpson ozempic weight loss

Since Season 17 of The Real Housewives of Orange County premiered on Jun. 7, Bravo star Emily Simpson, 47, has received comments and questions about her recent weight loss. During her Jun. 28 appearance on SiriusXM’s Jeff Lewis Live, the mother-of-three attributed her weight loss to the antidiabetic drug, Semaglutide (AKA Ozempic). “I did a full blood panel,” Emily said after she admitted to having a “nervous breakdown” over her looks. “My cholesterol was high. I have zero testosterone. I was pre-diabetic, so she [the doctor] actually said, ‘Why don’t you do a Semaglutide?’ which is Ozempic, so I did. I did that in December [2022].”

The 47-year-old has been open about her fitness journey and weight loss via Instagram in recent months, including posting photos from her facelift in January. “I don’t know what happened. I think I just went for four months hard when we were filming and I ate too much, drank too much, and just didn’t get enough sleep, didn’t exercise,” she told Jeff Lewis on his show. After seeing a photo of her introduction video ahead of the show’s premiere, Emily admitted that she didn’t recognize herself. “We finished filming in November of 2022, which was eight months ago. When we finished filming, I had sort of a nervous breakdown,” she said.

Although Emily discontinued using the medication after one month due its side effects, but she noted that it gave her a “kick start” into her fitness routine. “I didn’t like the way it made me feel lethargic and it made me just not have a lot of energy, which was hard with three little kids,” she continued, “but it does make you feel full and it does make you, for me, it was like a refresh.” The proud attorney attributed the medication to kicking her “bad habits” of “grazing” and helped her be more “conscientious” of what she was eating.

In total, Emily revealed that she lost around “five to seven pounds” on the medication. By Jan. 2023, notably the same month she revealed photos of her facelift, Emily went in and had liposuction done on her arms as well as a breast reduction. “Just the surgery alone was just, I felt like it was just a huge difference in my overall look just to have the thinner arms and just the smaller chest,” she shared. “I was so happy with the surgery, and I have so much muscle underneath that when he did the liposuction, my arms were just jacked.”

Now, the reality TV starlet has “changed” her diet and is focused on staying healthy. “I changed my diet completely. I eat mostly protein, very little carbs, and I work out like six, seven days a week,” Emily explained. She also highlighted that she “embraced” who she was during the “heaviest” she has “ever been,” but does not want to speak negatively about herself. “I don’t want to be detrimental to myself. I don’t want to say negative things about myself. I have a daughter. There’s women out there. You know?”, Emily said. “I just think it’s important that I embrace who I was at that time and now I’ve gotten healthier. I feel better about myself, but I still think I was hot.”

The new interview comes four days after Emily showed off her weight loss via Instagram and clapped back at online haters. In a photo of her in a black jumpsuit, a fan asked her if she was using Ozempic and noted that her arms would “revert” back to what they were before. Emily was quick to react and wrote, “you don’t know me and nothing will ‘revert back’ bc my arms are jacked from heavy lifting 7 days a week.”

Forget lipsuction and forget Ozempic — many celebrities are relying on natural methods to prepare for major events, slim down and feel their best. NYC-based skincare expert and founder of JTAV Clinical Skincare Joie Tavernise spoke to HollywoodLife.com about the rising trend of natural methods for shaping and shrinking the waist that celebrities are doing weekly! “These days celebrities want treatments that deliver quick and noticeable results, without having to take away from their busy schedule with downtime or recovery. With the busy event season here, the top treatments right now are EmSculpt Neo, Lymphatic Drainage Massage, and TruSculpt,” she explained in an EXCLUSIVE interview with HollywoodLife. “The beauty of these treatments is that they work with your body naturally to achieve a slimmer waist and flat tummy.”

Most recently, fans saw fitness expert Melissa Wood Tepperberg visit JTAV for a lymphatic drainage massage to prepare for her Sports Illustrated: Swim shoot. “Lymphatic drainage massage uses slow and steady pressure on the entire body to stimulate the lymph nodes and eliminate excess fluid and waste. The therapist uses their hands as well as various tools in a specific set of rhythmic movements with botanical extracts to encourage the flow of excess fluid and decrease swelling, bloating, and water retention from fluid buildup,” Joie explained the process of the treatment that helps the body detox toxins and reduces inflammation. “Lymphatic drainage massage can also improve circulation and boost the immune system.”

The expert advised for consumers to schedule a lymphatic drainage massage about 3-5 days out from your event; however, it is safe to do it even on the day of. She also noted that, if time permits, it’s recommended to schedule consistent lymphatic drainage massages 3-6 months out from your special event for optimal results. “The best way to maintain your results is to regularly schedule your appointments and stick to a homecare routine,” the JTAV founder explained. ” At home, I love dry brushing my body and using my new Lift & Sculpt Facial Roller for a self-care routine that not only feels wonderful and relaxing but also keeps any lymph or fluid in my face and body from becoming stagnant in-between treatments.”

Joie also suggested combining the EmSculpt Neo and lymphatic drainage massages to maximize your results. “EmSculpt Neo works deep in the muscles of the abdomen and buttocks to create rapid muscle contractions and burn fat with at a rate that is much higher than can be achieved through working out alone. A lymphatic drainage massage following EmSculpt Neo will release any lactic acid and prevent any soreness or muscle fatigue,” she told HL.

Unlike liposuction or even CoolSculpting, these treatments require no downtime and no risk, which is why they have become a more popular, natural choice for celebrities as of late. Additionally, as Joie pointed out, EmSculpt Neo, TruSculpt and lymphatic drainage massages “work naturally with your body to burn fat and build muscle, rather than simply removing the fat.”
